NEW YORK, N.Y. – Providence College women's soccer players
Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) and
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) earned BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Monday, October 2 following their performances last week against Butler and Creighton. The Friars went 1-0-1 on the week, tying Butler (1-1) on the road and defeating Creighton (3-1) at home.
Gruhn, who was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, was the lone goal scorer for the Friars in their tie against Butler. Gruhn scored her goal with one second left in the first half to beat the buzzer.
Hughes, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, led Providence with two goals over their win against Creighton. Hughes' two goals now rank her in the top seven all-time in career scoring at Providence College with 55 points. This marked her second two-goal game of her career.
The Friars will return to action on Thursday, October 5 against DePaul at 4:00 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
