RALEIGH, N.C.- The Providence College men's track and field opened their outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays on March 24-26 at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C.
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.),
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand),
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and
Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) raced for the Friars in the 1,500-meters. Back and White both recorded personal bests in 3:43.78 and 3:45.15, respectively. Ernst placed 12
th in a time of 3:41.99.
In the 5,000-meters,
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.),
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia), and Matt Lepine (Red Bank, N.Y.) represented Providence. Gallagher and Thygesen recorded times of 14:15.45 and 14:18.13, respectively, while Lepine recorded a personal best of 14:27.73.
In the 10,000-meters,
David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland) finished in a time of 29:04.9, setting a new personal best and placing him sixth all-time in Providence College program history.
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland), in his 10,000-meters debut, ran a time of 30:11. Freshman
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) who ran unattached, finished in a time of 29:23, breaking the Irish Junior record, which has been held for 50 years.
On the women's side,
Nicole Borowiec broke the Providence College program record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.98.
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) ran a time of 56.87 in the 400-meters, setting a new personal best and claiming the third all-time rank in Providence College program history. Lily Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) also recorded a personal best in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 16:02.
In the 100-meters,
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.) ran a time of 12.61, ranking her second all-time at Providence College.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) ran a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 63:64. In the 200-meters,
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.) set a personal best, finishing in 25.19, which ranks her second all-time at Providence College.

Shannon Flockhart should qualify for the NCAA First Round in Bloomington, Ind. on May 25-28.
Other Notable Performances:
-The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Grear, Newman,
Emme Conan (Skaneateles, N.Y.), and Borowiec finished in 49.02.

Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) raced in the women's 1,500-meters, finishing in 4:20.59 and 4:28.14, respectively.
-In the men's 800-meters,
Josh Lewin (Red Bank, N.J.) and
Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished in times of 1:52.24 and 1:55.73, respectively.

Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) finished in 50.80 in the men's 400-meters.
