CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College men's and women's track & field teams raced on the second day of the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb, 26. The women's team finished in eighth place with 54 points while the men's team finished seventh with 29.5 points.
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) was the premier performer for the Friars on the second day of the BIG EAST Championships. In the mile finals, Flockhart finished first overall in a time of 4:46.71 to clench the BIG EAST Champion title.
In the 60-meter hurdle final, junior
Nicole Borowiec placed seventh, finishing with 8.86.
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ire.) tabbed an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter final, in a time of 2:11.15.
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ire.) and Lily Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) represented the Friar women in the 3,000 meters, finishing in third (9:22.96) and sixth place (9:27.24) respectively. Mooney's was her second podium finish of the weekend after finishing runner-up in the 5,000-meters (16:18.49) on day one of the Championship.
Both of the women relay teams tabbed impressive finishes. The women's 4x800 meter relay team of
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.),
Alex O'Neill,
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and
Shannon Flockhart placed second in a time of 8:43.37.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.),
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ire.),
Delaney Mick (Hopkinton, Mass.) and
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) ran a time of 3:51.59, placing fourth and besting their own Providence College indoor program record.
On the men's side,
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand),
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia),
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and
Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) raced for the Friars in the 3,000 meters. Back finished fourth overall in a time of 7:56.85. He was followed by Thygesen in 13
th (8:16.59), Gallagher in 15
th (8:24.06) and Hefele in 17
th (8:28.58).
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) had a strong showing for the Friars in the mile finals, placing fifth overall in a time of 4:05.50.
A team of

Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.),
Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and
Angus White finished fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 7:33.48.
In the men's high jump, Chris Johns (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
John Zygiel placed fourth (1.95) and seventh (1.85), respectively.
