EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The 2022 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships Presented by JEEP begin on Wednesday afternoon at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The event returns to Long Island for the 15th time in BIG EAST history. The Villanova women look to claim their ninth-consecutive title, while the Xavier men are in search of their fourth straight championship.
All Championship action will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi on FloSports, with wall-to-wall coverage that includes all event preliminaries, finals and awards. Alexis Downie will be poolside reporting on the action.
The seven-session championships begin on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. ET with the prelims of the women's 3M diving followed by four relay finals: the 800 yard freestyle (women's, men's) and the 200 yard medley relay (women's, men's). The women's 3M diving finals will take place in between relay finals.
Live results will be available for each session which can be accessed at BIG EAST.com. Preliminaries for swimming will commence at 10 a.m., while diving prelims start at noon Thursday through Saturday and at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Finals for both swimming and diving will begin at 5:45 p.m. each evening.
In last year's event, the Villanova women captured their eighth consecutive BIG EAST title with 906.5 points, besting second-place UConn by 68.5 points. On the men's side, Xavier took home the crown for the third straight year and fifth time in program history, totaling 862.5 points. The Villanova men finished second with 685.5 total points.
This will be the 15th BIG EAST Championship held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The facility is widely recognized as one of the finest swimming facilities in the U.S., regularly hosting major swimming and diving competitions. The 80,000-square-foot center includes a "stretch" 50-meter pool that is 68 meters long, with three movable bulkheads. The pool setup varies, with 50-meter, 25-yard, and/or 25-meter lap lanes, depending on the pool setup. There is a diving well with a 10-meter competition diving tower — the only such tower in the New York metropolitan area — and 1- and 3-meter springboards. The seating area can accommodate up to 1,700 spectators.
