PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team has a pair of games on the schedule this weekend. The Friars will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 7 to face BIG EAST foe Temple at 3:00 p.m. Providence will return home to Lennon Family Field for a non-conference match against No. 22 Maine on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the match against Maine, the program will honor its five seniors and two graduate students.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (5-6, 2-1 BIG EAST):
• Providence enters the weekend with a 5-6 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
• The Friars have won four of their last five games, with their only loss coming against No. 11 UConn on Sept. 30.
• Four of the Friars' six losses have come against nationally ranked opponents: No. 14 Boston College (4-0), No. 6 Iowa (3-1), No. 25 UMass (2-0) and No. 11 UConn (4-0).
• The Friars are 3-1 at home on Lennon Family Field and have won six of the last seven matches at the facility dating back to Oct. 17, 2021. Last season, Providence posted an 8-3 mark at Lennon Field.

Ally DeCoste leads the Friars in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
• DeCoste was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 27. She tallied three points for the Friars in a 4-0 victory over Georgetown. DeCoste notched the game-winning goal just 1:21 into match. She picked up an assist on the Friars' fourth goal of the afternoon.

Sophia Pompeo ranks second in scoring with nine points and is tied for the team lead in goals, with four. She also owns one assist on the season. Pompeo's younger sister, Lucia, also plays field hockey in the BIG EAST as a sophomore on Quinnipiac's roster.

Lisa McNamara is third on the in scoring (eight points), having recorded two goals and a team-best four assists. She is 2-2 at the stroke mark this season. McNamara competed in the Nexus Championship this past summer.

Nora Goddard-Despot is four in scoring, with seven points, on two goals and three assists. She recently scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help Providence defeat Holy Cross in the Friars' most recent game on Oct. 2. It marked the second overtime game winner of her career. In 2019, she scored the game-winning goal in a 5-4 overtime victory over No. 24 Maine in Orono. Goddard-Despot is and active member of Canada's Junior Women's National Team.

Niamh Gowing rounds out the list of multi-goal scorers for Providence, having recorded six points on two goals and two assists.
• Eight different Friars have scored at least one goal.
• Ten of the Friars' 17 goals this season have come in the second half. Their highest-scoring quarter this season has been the third quarter (seven goals).

Asia Porter has played 686 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 2.10 goals against average and a 0.739 save percentage. She also has registered two shut-out victories vs. Georgetown (4-0) and Holy Cross (1-0).
• Porter has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on two occasions this season.
• Providence will honor its five seniors and two graduate students prior to Sunday's game against Maine. The senior class consists of

SERIES NOTES VS. TEMPLE:
• Eight of the last nine meetings between Providence and Temple have been decided by one goal, including five games decided in overtime. Two of the overtime games required a shootout to determine the winner.
• During the nine-game stretch, Providence leads the series 6-3, including a 4-1 mark in overtime games.
• The Owls have earned victories in two of the last three meetings, two of which were played during the 2020-21 season that was moved to the spring during the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Last season, the Owls earned a 1-0 victory over Providence at Lennon Family Field. Grace Angelella scored the lone goal of the afternoon at the 17:54 mark during a penalty corner. Temple held a slight advantage in shots during the game (5-4), while shots on goal (2-2) and penalty corners (2-2) were even.
SCOUTING TEMPLE (9-3, 2-1 BIG EAST):
• The Owls enter the weekend with a 9-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
• Temple, Providence, Old Dominion and Connecticut all sit in a four-way tie for second place in the BIG EAST standings at 2-1 in conference play.
• The Owls dropped back-to-back games against Villanova (3-2, OT) and Penn (2-0), but rallied last weekend for a pair of victories against Georgetown (1-0) and Drexel (3-2) to get back on the winning track.
• Temple is 6-1 this season when playing at home on Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
• McKenna Burkhardt leads the Owls in scoring with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. Two of her eight goals have been penalty stroke opportunities.
• Tess Muller is second in scoring with 16 points on four goals and eight assists, while Julianne Kopec rounds out the list of double-digit point scorers with 10 points on five goals.
• Twelve different players have scored at least one goal this season.
• The Owls have recorded 5+ goals in four games this season.
• Twenty of the Owls' 33 goals this season have come in the second half, including 12 goals scored in the third quarter.
• Molly Frey has played all 740 minutes in the cage and owns a 1.32 goals against average and a 0.682 save percentage. She has recorded five shut-out victories vs. Lafayette, Lehigh, Longwood, La Salle and Georgetown.
SCOUTING #22 MAINE (8-3, 3-0 AMERICA EAST):
• Maine enters the weekend with an 8-3 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the America East. The Black Bears will face conference-foe Cal on Friday, Oct. 7 in Orono, Maine before making their way to Providence to face the Friars.
• Maine is in the midst of a seven-game win streak and is coming off a 13-0 victory against Merrimack on Oct. 2.
• The last time Maine lost a match dates back to Sept. 4, when it suffered a 1-0 setback to Quinnipiac. The Black Bears outshot the Bobcats 12-4, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal, and also held a 6-3 edge in corners, but were unable to find the back of the cage.
• Five players have reached double digits in the points column, led by Poppy Lambert (25 points) and Mallory Mackesy (21 points). Lambert leads the team with 11 goals and has added three assists, while Mackesy owns nine goals and three assists.
• Madisyn Hartley leads Maine in assists (10) and Tereza Holubcova ranks second on the team, with seven.
• Mia Borley has been a staple in goal for Maine and has logged 551 minutes this season. She owns a 1.09 goals against average and a 0.844 save percentage. Borley also has earned two shut-out victories this season vs. Hofstra and UMass Lowell. She was named NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 28 and has earned America East Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions.
• The Friars and Black Bears last met on Sept. 4, 2021. Maine earned a 2-1 victory in double-overtime in Orono. Lambert scored the game winner with 1:20 remaining in the second OT.
• The Friars last defeated the Black Bears on Sept. 1, 2019, when the squad claimed a 5-4 overtime victory in Orono. The two teams did not play in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Sunday's match-up between the two programs will mark the first meeting at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. since Aug. 25, 2017. On that day, the Friars claimed a 1-0 victory.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Upon completion of this weekend's action against Temple and Maine, the Friars will hit the road for a pair of games in Virginia against No. 14 Old Dominion and VCU. The Friars and Monarchs will clash in BIG EAST play on Friday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Norfolk, Va. On Sunday, Oct. 16, Providence will face the Rams at 1:00 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
