PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team became the only BIG EAST program to score on No. 16 Liberty this season, with one game remaining on the league schedule, but it was not enough as the Friars fell to the Flames, 3-1, on Oct. 21 in Providence, R.I.
The Friars were within striking distance early in the fourth quarter as
Ally DeCoste found the back of the cage for Providence to make it a 2-1 game, but Liberty scored a late insurance goal for the 3-1 win. The Friars dropped to 5-11 overall (2-4 BIG EAST), while Liberty improved to 10-6 (6-0 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Liberty outshot Providence 4-3 in the opening quarter and each team earned one penalty corner opportunity.
• The Flames took a 1-0 lead as Lizzie Hamlett tipped in a feed from Jodie Conolly during their lone corner attempt of the frame. The goal came at the 10:42 mark.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Flames took a two-goal lead at 17:14 as Charlotte Vaanhold collected a loose ball in the circle off an initial shot that was blocked and lifted the ball by Providence goalkeeper
Asia Porter.
• Liberty carried its 2-0 lead into halftime and held the advantage in shots (8-4) and corners (4-2). Each team recorded three shots on goal in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• The third quarter was a scoreless affair as Liberty carried its 2-0 lead into the final 15 minutes.
• Liberty held a 3-0 advantage in shots during the third and each team recorded one penalty corner.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence got on the board in the fourth to make the score 2-1.

Ally DeCoste received a long pass up field from freshman
Caroline Krebs. DeCoste beat out the defender and beat the Liberty goalkeeper on the near post at 51:02.
• Lizzie Hamlett helped Liberty regain its two-goal lead as she collected a rebound off a blocked shot and scored her second goal of the day and 10
th of the year.
NOTES:
• The Friars are the only BIG EAST team to score a goal against Liberty this season.
• The Flames nine victories prior to meeting the Friars were shutouts.
• Krebs made her first appearance in the starting line-up for the Friars and recorded her first career assist on DeCoste's goal.
• DeCoste leads the Friars with five goals this season, including four in BIG EAST Conference play.
• Porter finished the afternoon with three saves, while Liberty goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen also collected three saves.
• Liberty held the advantage in shots (13-6), shots on goal (6-4) and penalty corners (6-5).
• Eight of the Friars' 11 losses this season have come to teams ranked in the national poll or previously ranked in the poll.

• The Friars return to action on Friday, Oct. 28 at Quinnipiac. The BIG EAST regular-season finale is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
