Field Hockey Concludes Season With 4-2 Loss At Quinnipiac

Niamh Gowing and Bella Carrozza each tallied a goal in the effort.

HAMDEN, CONN. – The Providence College field hockey team took a 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter on Friday afternoon against BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac on Oct. 28, but the Bobcats rattled off four unanswered goals to claim an improbably 4-2 victory. 
 
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence outshot Quinnipiac, 9-3, in the first quarter and seven of the Friars' shots were on target.
Niamh Gowing was the aggressor in the opening frame for Providence, as she attempted six shots and put five on goal.
• Gowing gave Providence a 1-0 lead at the 7:32 mark of the first.
Ally DeCoste and Caroline Krebs were credited with assists on the play.
 
2ND QUARTER:
Bella Carrozza put the Friars ahead 2-0 at the 19:01 mark, unassisted.
• Providence maintained its 2-0 lead into halftime.
• The Friars led in shots (10-7) and shots on goal (8-4).
• Quinnipiac recorded a 4-0 margin in penalty corners during the first half, earning two in each of the first two quarters.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• The third quarter was scoreless as Providence carried its 2-0 lead into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
• The Bobcats outshot the Friars 4-1 in the third and recorded three penalty corners.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Quinnipiac scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to claim an improbable victory (4-2).
• The Bobcats used a 6-0 advantage in shots to complete the comeback.
• QU's Cameron Brower tallied two goals in the scoring spurt, with Lucia Pompeo and Stella Tegtmeier each recording one. 
 
NOTES:
• The Friars complete their season with a 5-12 overall record (2-5 BIG EAST).
• After firing nine shots in the opening 15 minutes of play, the Friars attempted just two shots in the final 45 minutes.
Asia Porter registered five saves in goal for Providence, while Cristina Torres stopped seven shots for Quinnipiac. 
• The Bobcats finished the day with a 17-11 edge in shots (10-9 SOG) and a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.
