Volleyball Travels To The Mid-Atlantic For BIG EAST Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team will travel to South Orange, N.J. and Queens, N.Y. to face Seton Hall and St. John's this weekend. The Friars will take on the Pirates on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m. ET and the Red Storm on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 4:00 p.m. ET. 
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Friars finished their first BIG EAST weekend 0-2 after falling to Xavier in five sets and Butler in three sets. Providence stands at 12-3 overall and will look to claim their first BIG EAST victory of the season.
 
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) leads the Friars with 187 kills and 37 blocks. The freshman ranks seventh in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.34).
 
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has tallied a team-best 553 assists and has the second-most digs (165). Barber ranks third in assists per set (10.43) and is tied for seventh in the BIG EAST in service aces per set (0.36).
 
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) ranks second on the team in kills (113) and second in total blocks (30). Boyle is sixth in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.326).
 
SCOUTING THE PIRATES: Seton Hall checks in at 8-8 overall, including an 0-2 mark in the BIG EAST after falling to UConn in straight sets and St. Johns in four. The Pirates split the series with the Friars in their meetings last season (3-2 and 0-3).
 
Perri Lucas leads the Pirates with 154 kills and averages 2.80 kills per set.
 
Taylor Jakubowski  has recorded a team-high 266 assists and averages 4.75 assists per set. Jakubowski has split setting duties with Cagla Bengi who has tallied 247 assists, and averages 4.75 assists per set.
 
Newcomer Anna Holland has registered 249 digs and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.45).
 
SCOUTING THE RED STORM: St. John's finished its opening BIG EAST weekend 1-1 after defeating UConn and falling to Seton Hall. The first match was decided in three sets (0-3) while the second finished in four (3-1). St. John's holds an overall record of 10-6, with a 1-1 conference mark.
 
Tiziana Baumrukova leads the Red Storm with 572 assists. Baumrukova ranks first in the BIG EAST in assists per set (10.59).
 
Rachele Rastelli has a team-best 241 kills and ranks second in digs (105). The senior ranks first in kills per set (4.16) in the BIG EAST.
 
Senior Sheena Yoshioka has recorded 116 digs and averages 2.00 digs per set.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence will return home next weekend to face Marquette and DePaul. The Friars will take on the Golden Eagles on Oct. 8 at 6:00 p.m. and the Blue Demons on Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
