Durham, N.H. – Providence College volleyball had a successful first day at the Holly Young Tournament in Durham, N.H. on Friday, Sept. 3, coming away from the day 2-0. The Friars defeated the Siena Saints in the match one, 3-1, before defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University in straight sets in the second match. The Friars now hold a 5-1 record on the 2021 season.
SIENA MATCH HIGHTLIGHTS: The Friars won in four sets against the Saints 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-17, 25-21).
As a team, Providence recorded 64 kills, 58 assists, 48 digs and four total team blocks.
The Friars attack was led by
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) with 19 kills, while
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) followed up with 11 kills.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 47 assists, leading all players in the match. Barber also added eight digs.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) contributed to the Friars' defense with 12 kills apiece.
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON UNIVERSITY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars took the second set against the FDU Knights in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-20).
Providence recorded 44 kills, 38 assists, 52 digs and five total team blocks.
Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) led the Friars attack with 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage.
Setter Barber contributed to the Providence offense with 34 assists and tied for most digs on the team with 13.
Taylor also led the Friars on defense, recording 13 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 4, to play one final matches against University of New Hampshire at 2:00 p.m.
