Volleyball Downed In Straight Sets To Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Providence College volleyball team was downed in straight sets to the Butler Bulldogs, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Indianapolis, Ind. Providence moves to 12-3 overall, 0-2 in BIG EAST play.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-2 lead, and held the lead for the entirety of the match. Butler finished the set, 25-23.

Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) had a team-high five kills on five total attacks.

Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied nine assists.

Natalie Benson (Bourbonnais, Ill.) registered a team-high six digs.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler held the lead from start to finish, winning the set, 25-23.

Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) led the Friars with five kills.

Barber recorded nine assists for Providence and a team-high five digs.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The third set was back-and-forth with eight tied scores and six lead changes between the Friars and Bulldogs. Providence had the score tied at 22-22, but Butler was able to hold the Friars off and take the final set, 25-22.

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) registered five kills on nine total attacks.

Barber tallied team-highs in both assists (10) and digs (12).

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Rhoden paced the Friar offense with 13 kills on 30 total attacks.

Barber recorded 28 assists and 18 digs.

Benson, Taylor, and Barber were the only Friars with double-double digs.

As a team, the Friars registered 43 kills on 133 total attacks, 65 digs and 39 assists.

WHAT'S NEXT: Providence return to action in South Orange, N.J. on Friday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m. against Seton Hall University.
