PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team finished day one at the 2021 Rose Hill Classic, 2-0 after defeating St. Francis Brooklyn in straight sets, 3-0, and battling Fordham University over five sets for a 3-2 win. After today, the Friars improve to 12-1 on the season.

ST. FRANCIS HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15. The Terriers fall to 2-12 on the season.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 34 assists and nine digs, tying
Natalie Benson (Bourbonnais, Ill.) for a team-high of digs in the match.
Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) led the Friars with 11 kills on 25 total attacks.
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) recorded a team-high .667 attacking percentage after eight kills on 12 total attacks.
As a team, the Friars had 45 kills, 41 assists, 47 digs, and three total team blocks.
FORDHAM HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Friars match against the Rams was a back-and-forth affair, with the Friars taking the match in five sets, 26-28, 25-18, 25-19, 35-33, 15-13.

Barber tallied her eighth double-double of the season after recording 50 assists and 17 digs.

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) recorded a game-high 21 kills.
Â
Barber also recorded double-digit kills with 11, while
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas),
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.), and Fink each had 10.
As a team, the Friars had 67 kills on 207 total attacks, 88 digs, 62 assists and 13 total team blocks.
Leitman and Barber each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.Â

WHAT'S NEXT:Â The Friars will begin their BIG EAST campaign on Friday, Sept. 24 as they travel to Xavier University at 6:00 p.m.
