PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College Volleyball team has concluded its non-conference schedule and will begin BIG EAST competition this weekend with road games against Xavier and Butler. The Friars will take on the Xavier Musketeers on Friday, Sept. 24 at 6:00 p.m. and the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4:00 P.M. Providence finished their non-conference schedule with a 12-1 record and is on a 11-match win streak.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Friars have received significant contributions from freshman
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) on the offensive end. Rhoden leads the Friars in kills (160) and averaged 3.33 kills per set in the non-conference line-up with a .303 hitting percentage.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) holds a team-high 473 assists for the Friars this season. Her average of 10.51 assists per set ranks second in the BIG EAST. Barber has also proven to be a weapon defensively, holding the second most digs on the team (135).
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) has recorded a team-high 167 digs and averages 3.71 digs per set.
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) holds an impressive .332 hitting percentage, the fifth best in the BIG EAST.
SCOUTING THE MUSKATEERS: Xavier concluded its non-conference schedule with a 5-5 record. The Musketeers played matches last week on Thursday and Friday against Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio), respectively. Xavier fell 1-3 in their match versus Cincinnati but won in straight sets against Miami. The Musketeers were picked fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Moriah Hopkins has registered a team-high 82 kills on 201 total attacks.
Carrigan O'Reilly leads the Musketeers with 357 assists and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST for assists per set (9.65).
Stevie Wolf has recorded a team-high 167 digs and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.51).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Butler finished its non-conference schedule with a 6-7 record, most recently coming off three losses against Milwaukee, UCLA, and Western Michigan at the Bulldog Brawl. Butler was ranked ninth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Melody Davidson leads the Bulldogs with 177 kills digs and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.69).
Jaymeson Kinley holds a team-high 244 digs and is ranked third in the BIG EAST in digs per set (5.08).
Madison Friebel ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in assists per sets (9.90) and has tallied a team-high 475 assists.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars hit the road again next weekend to take on Seton Hall and St. Johns. Providence will play the Pirates on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m. and the Red Storm on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 4:00 p.m.
