Women’s Soccer Scores Two Second Half Goals To Win The Crosstown Cup

Hannah McNulty scored the game winner in the second half.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College women's soccer beat Brown, 2-1, on Thursday, Sept. 16 on Chapey Field to conclude non-conference play. After being down, 1-0, the Friars scored two second half goals to secure the win. Sophomore Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) tied the score in the 62nd minute. Fifth-year Hannah McNulty scored her first goal of the season and the game winner in the 71st minute. It marked McNulty's 25th career goal, McNulty is now in third place among the program's all-time scorers with 60 points. McNulty passes former Friar, Eileen Farren, who has been in third place since she graduated in 1990.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-In the 17th minute, Brown took a 1-0 advantage with a goal scored by Rebecca Rosen.
-The Friars and Bears battled in the first half offensively each taking seven and eight shots, respectively.
-Hughes scored in the 62nd minute to even the score off a pass from freshman Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.).
-In the 71st minute, McNulty scored the winning goal off a cross pass from junior Alexis Rothmann (Norwell, Mass.).
-In the second half, Providence outshot Brown 10-6.
-After allowing an early goal, sophomore Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) made eight saves to back the Friar defense.  
-The Friars will begin BIG EAST action on Thursday, Sept. 23 versus Xavier on Chapey Field.
