PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team defeated the Binghamton University Bearcats, 3-1, and the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (25-21, 25-11, 25-18) in straight sets on day two of the 16
th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic. The Friars earned tournament champion and finished 3-0 on the weekend, improving their season record to 10-1.
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) earned MVP of the tournament while senior
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
BINGHAMTON MATCH HIGHLIGHTS- The Friars won in four sets against the Bearcats (25-16, 22-25, 25-8, 25-17).
As a team, Providence recorded 57 kills, 51 assists, 67 digs and four total team blocks.
The Friars attack was led by
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas ) with 13 kills.
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) and
Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) contributed to offense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 41 assists, leading all players in the match.
Mackenzie Taylor led defense in digs (22).
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON UNIVERSITY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars took the second set against the FDU Knights in straight sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-18).
Providence tallied 42 kills, 41 assists, 47 digs and four total team blocks.
Rhoden led the Friars attack with 10 kills on 20 total attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.
Setter Barber contributed to the Providence offense with 36 assists and defense with a team-high 12 digs.
Taylor surpassed 1,000 career digs in the first set of the match.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will travel to New York, N.Y. for the Fordham Tournament on September 18. Providence will play two matches on Saturday, September 18 against St. Francis College Brooklyn (12:00 p.m.) and Coppin State University (3:00 p.m.).
