PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell on Friday, August 27 to the West Point Black Knights in four sets. Army took the first set, 25-19, and the Friars took set two, 25-23, before the Black Knights won the final two (25-22, 25-19). Providence moves to 1-1 overall.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: West Point claimed the first set, 25-19.
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) paced the Friar offense with four kills.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded eight assists.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence fought back from the first and took the second set, 25-23.
Barber held a team-high in assists (11) and kills (four).
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Black Knights took the third set, 25-22.
Rhoden led the Friars with five kills.
Barber tallied eight assists.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Black Knights went on to win the fourth set, 25-19.
Rhoden registered a team-high four kills while Barber held the team-high in assists (10).
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Barber tallied 37 assists and nine digs.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) had a team-high 16 digs.
Rhoden led the Friar offense with 15 kills, followed by
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) who put up seven kills.
Rhoden,
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio),
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas), and
Elena Leontaridou (Thessaloniki, Greece) registered two blocks apiece on the night.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns tomorrow, Saturday, August 28 at 2:30 p.m. for its final match in the Army Invitational against Iona College.
