Geneva, Ohio- The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in the second day of the BIG EAST Championships in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute on Saturday, May 15.
For the women, in the 5,000 meter,
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) both finished top-six. Tuck placed third (16:12.39) and Coffin finished sixth (16:24.91). The 4x800 meter relay team of
Dana Lowney (Easton, Mass.),
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.),
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) and
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) placed third (8:53.26).
On the men's side,
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) raced past three runners in the final 100 meters to finish second in the 1,500 meter (3:45.21).
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) had a strong finish to place fourth in the 5,000 meter. Rocha's time, 13:49.79, is a lifetime best.
Other Notable Performances:
- The 4x800 meter relay team of
Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.),
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand),
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and Ernst finished fourth (7:31.15)
- White finished seventh in the 1,500 meter (3:47.81).
-The 4x100 meter relay team of
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.),
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.),
Delaney Mick (Hopkinton, Mass.) and
Emme Conan (Skanteateles, N.Y.) placed sixth (48.80).

Daniel Rooney (Rochester, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (56.22).

Abigail Harrington (Wakefield, Mass.) ran a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles and placed fifth (1:05.68).
-O'Neill finished eighth in the 800 meter finals (2:12.53).
