PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team lost in straight sets to Marquette, 25-13, 25-20, 25-21. The Friars hold a 13-5 overall record (1-4 BIG EAST) and the Golden Eagles stand at a 14-2 record, 5-0 overall.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette got off to a strong start, rallying off seven points in a row. The Golden Eagles led for the entirety of the set, winning 25-13.
Jiji Lykins (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Friars with three kills on six total attacks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had a team-high four assists.
Caroline LaMacciha (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) paced the defensive side with a set-high three digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars put up a fight in the second set, tying the score five times with two lead changes, but ultimately dropped the set, 20-25.
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) had a set-high six kills on 10 total attacks.
Barber tallied seven assists for the Friars and LaMacchia tallied and a set-high four digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette held the lead for the entirety of the set, with the exception of a tie at 1-1. The Golden Eagles took the set, 25-21.
Rhoden led the Friars with four kills on total attacks.
Barber had team-highs eight assists and LaMacchia had a team-high four digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Barber tallied 19 assists.
Rhoden paced the Friars with 11 kills on 28 total attacks.
LaMacchia registered 11 digs.
As a team, the Friars recorded 27 kills on 88 total attacks, 31 digs, 22 assists, and three total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns this Sunday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. for a BIG EAST match against DePaul.
