PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to DePaul in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 on Oct. 10 in Alumni Hall. The Friars move to 13-6 overall (1-5 BIG EAST) and DePaul improves to 10-8 overall (3-3 BIG EAST).

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Blue Demons held the lead from start to finish and won the set, 25-16.

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas), Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) and Jiji Lykins (Virginia Beach, Va.) each had a team-high two kills in the first set.

Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Friars with six assists.

Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) registered a team-high three digs.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul broke an early 7-7 tie and maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the set, winning 25-19.

Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) paced the Friar offense with four kills on ten total attacks (.400 hitting percentage).

Barber recorded a set-high eight assists to go with one digs.

LaMacchia had a team-high four digs.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The final set went back and forth with six tied scores and three lead changes. Providence trailed 20-21 before DePail went on a 5-1 run, taking the set, 25-21.

Leitman and Rhoden both tallied a team-high four kills.

Sammie Ruggles had a team-high seven assists.

Lykins recorded four digs for the Friar defense.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Barber finished with a team-high 17 assists and seven digs.

Leitman registered nine kills on 23 total attacks. On the defensive side, LaMacchia led Friar defense with ten digs.

WHAT'S NEXT: Providence travels to UConn for a mid-week match up on Thursday, Oct. 14. at 5:00 p.m. before hosting Creighton University on Sunday, Oct. 17 in Alumni Hall at 1:00 p.m.
