Volleyball Welcomes Marquette and DePaul For BIG EAST Home Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team is set to host Marquette University and DePaul University on Friday, October 8 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m., respectively, as they host their first pair of BIG EAST matches.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Friars enter the weekend at a 13-4 overall record with a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST. Providence claimed their first BIG EAST win of the season last weekend versus St. John's and are looking to strike again this weekend.
 
Freshman Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) tallies team-highs in kills (228), kills per set (3.51), points (237.5) and points per set (3.65). Rhoden ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in kills and earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her performance this past weekend.
 
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) ranks first on the team in hitting percentage (.323) and eighth in the BIG EAST. Boyle also has the second most blocks on the team (35).
 
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) leads the Friars and ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per set (10.71). Barber has recorded holds the second highest dig record on the team (197), averaging 3.18 digs per set. She recently surpassed the all-time record in assists for the Friar volleyball program, tallying 4,113 assists over her career.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES: Marquette enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the BIG EAST after posting a 13-2 overall record (4-0 in the BIG EAST). Last weekend, in BIG EAST play, the Golden Eagles defeated UConn in four sets and DePaul in just three. The Friars and Marquette did not meet in a match last season. Marquette was ranked second in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and is riding a seven-game winning streak.
 
Taylor Wolf leads the team in kills (148) and kills per set (2.90) and points per set (4.89). The Preseason All-BIG EAST selection has claimed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, twice (Sept. 27, Aug. 30). Wolf also ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in service aces (51).
 
Carly Skrabak ranks first in digs (142) for the Golden Eagles and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.71).
 
Claire Mosher leads Marquette in assists (281) and ranks tenth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (6.00).

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMON: DePaul stands at 9-7 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demon fell to Marquette in straight sets in their most recent match.
Providence did not meet DePaul in a match last season. DePaul was selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Jill Pressly leads the Blue Demon in kills (204) and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in kills per set (4.08).
 
Rachel Krasowski leads the Blue Demons in digs (301) and ranks tenth the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.00).
 
Ashley Cudiamat and Molly Murrihy rank tenth (6.00) and 12th (5.38), respectively in the BIG EAST in assists per set.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns next week with a mid-week road game at UConn on Thursday, October 14 at 5:00 p.m. before hosting No. 19 Creighton University at home on Sunday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m.
