Will Layden earned two individual victories on the men’s side; Sally Alrutz and Taylor Loud each earned tightly contested wins in their respective events for the women.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College swimming and diving programs were in the pool competing for a second-straight day, following up a trip to Iona on Friday with a visit to Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 30.
 
Will Layden had another solid performance for the Friars on the men's side. He took first-place finishes in the 50-meter free style (23.28) and 100-meter freestyle events (52.32). He also anchored the winning squad in the men's 400-meter freestyle relay (3:31.77), joining teammates McGovern Brown, Alex Beauchene and Aidan Hughes.
 
Brown paced the field in the men's 100-meter backstroke with a finishing time of 59.47. Kevin Hood also joined the list of individual winners, taking the 100-meter breaststroke (1:05.87). Ryan Sharp added another Friar victory in the 100-meter butterfly, topping the field in 58.89. 
 
Sally Alrutz claimed a victory in the women's 100-meter butterfly, with a time of 1:07.05. In an exciting finish, she edged out Maggie O'Donnell of Fairfield who touched the wall in 1:07.13. Alrutz found herself in the second-place position in two other individual events, including the 100-meter backstroke (1:06.26) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:23.57).
 
Taylor Loud also came out on top for the Providence women's team in a tightly contested 50-meter freestyle (27.74), touching the wall just one one-hundredth of a second ahead of Fairfield's second-place finisher (27.75).
 
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 against Boston University. The meet will take place at Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. The day will kick off with diving at 11:00 a.m., with the swim events beginning at 1:00 p.m.
