PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team defeated Villanova in straight sets, 3-0, during BIG EAST regular-season play on Oct. 22 in Providence, R.I.
1st SET:
• Providence led the first set, 20-9, but Villanova rallied to score seven-straight points to get within 20-16.
•
Emma Fink halted the run with her fourth kill of the set to give the Friars a 21-16 advantage.
• The Wildcats continued to chip away at the Friars' lead getting within two (22-20), but Providence answered with back-to-back points to take a 24-20 advantage.
• Providence took the first set, 25-21.
• Fink paced the Friars with five kills, hitting 0.444.
•
Shaliyah Rhoden added four kills on 10 attempts (.400).
•
Mackenzie Taylor registered eight digs.
• Riley Homer had a team-high three kills in the first set for 'Nova.
2nd SET:
• Providence took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 victory in the second set.
• Villanova scored the first point of the set, but would prove to be the only lead it would have during the frame. After Providence went ahead, 2-1, the Wildcats tied the set on three occasions but the Friars responded each time.
• Rhoden led the Friars with five kills in the second set, while
Emma Nelson added four.
• Taylor paced the Friars in digs, with five.
3rd SET:
• Villanova held an 8-7 lead before the Friars rattled off seven-straight points to take a 14-8 advantage.
• Providence led 21-14, but Villanova refused to go quietly, scoring three of the next four points to get within 22-17.
• After a Providence timeout, the Wildcat's lost ground after a service error (23-17).
• The Friars closed out the match, 25-19.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Rhoden led the Friars with 10 kills in the match off of 24 attempts at the net (.375).
•
Allison Barber recorded 26 assists and added six digs and two kill.
• Taylor finished the night with 16 digs and also contributed four assists.
• Rose Crist registered a match-high 11 kills for Villanova.

• Providence returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 24 against BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
