PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team hosts Villanova and Georgetown this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST matches. The Friars take on the Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 22 at 6:00 p.m. and the Hoyas on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: Last week, Providence played in two BIG EAST matches against UConn and Creighton. The Friars fell in both matches, first to the Huskies in four sets, (1-3), then to Creighton in three (0-3). Providence stands at 13-8 overall (1-7 BIG EAST).
Freshman
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) leads the Friars in kills (263) and ranks seventh in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.37).
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) added her 13
th double-double of the season against Creighton with 18 assists and 14 digs. Barber ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per set (10.01) and has 751 assists on the season. Barber also serves as a defensive threat, with a team-high 233 digs. The graduate student setter ranks 11
th in the BIG EAST in digs per set (3.11).
Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) ranks 11
th in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.287) and ranks second on the Friars in kills (145).
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Villanova is coming off two wins this past weekend at Butler (3-2) and Xavier (3-1). The Wildcats rank sixth in the BIG EAST with a 4-4 conference record. Villanova is 12-8 overall.
Averi Salvador leads the Wildcats defensively and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.27). Salvador averaged 5.0 digs per match this past weekend.
Villanova's setter, Belle Morgan, ranks second in the BIG EAST in assists per set (10.12) and has tallied 567 assists on the season.
The Wildcats are led in kills by Riley Homer, who ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.69). Homer has tallied 262 kills. Kiera Booth, Rose Crist and Madeline Barber have also helped lead the offensive charge in kills.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS: Georgetown enters the weekend after two road losses to Xavier (1-3) and Butler (0-3) last weekend. The Hoyas hold a 5-14 overall record and ranks 11
th eighth in the BIG EAST with a 1-7 conference record.
Mary Grace Goyena leads the Hoyas offense with 191 kills on the season.
Emma Plutnicki ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (7.83). She has recorded 383 assists on the season and a total 39 assists in last weekends matches.
Jessica Cusi leads the Hoya defense, ranking fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.54). Cusi has totaled 336 digs throughout the season.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence heads to DePaul and Marquette next weekend. The Friars take on the Blue Demons on Friday, Oct. 29 at 8:00 p.m. and the Golden Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 6:00 p.m. In the first meetings, Providence fell to DePaul and Marquette. Both matches were decided in three sets.
