Volleyball's Gabriela Dias Selected To Participate In AVCA Diversity Awards Program

Dias serves as the Friars’ graduate assistant and is in the midst of her second season at Providence.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball graduate assistant, Gabriela Dias, has been selected as the BIG EAST nominee by the BIG EAST Conference Head Volleyball coaches to participate in the three-day American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Diversity Awards Program.

The AVCA Diversity Awards Program runs from December 16-19th, during which selected candidates will participate in a series of educational, developmental and relationship building experiences in line with AVCA's commitment to advancing the sport of volleyball by making it more diverse and more inclusive.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 AVCA Convention will take place virtually with all 2020 AVCA Diversity Awards winners being invited to in-person programming at the 2021 AVCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Additionally, Dias is currently completing an internship with Nick Sailor, Providence College's Director of Training and Education for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to strengthen and build upon the College's efforts to cultivate policies, practices and structures that ensure an inclusive, equitable and hospitable environment for students, student-athletes, staff, trainers and coaches.
