Providence Volleyball Defeats Bryant On Day Two Of The Ocean State Cup To Remain Undefeated In The Tournament

The Friars will play their final match of the weekend against host URI on Sunday at 3 p.m.

KINGSTON R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (4-1) defeated Bryant University (2-4) in four sets (3-1) on Saturday, Sept. 5, in the squad's second match of the Ocean State Cup.


FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars take the first set, 25-19, (1-0).
  • Both teams traded points early and started the set tied, 5-5.
  • A kill by freshman Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) extended the Friars' lead, 15-11.
  • Bryant was forced to call a timeout when the Friars held a 17-12 advantage.  
  • The Bulldogs cut Providence's lead (20-16) to four, Friars took a timeout. 
  • Senior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) scored a kill; Bryant took their second timeout.
  • The Friars closed out the match and won, 25-19.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Bryant won the second set, 25-23, to tie the match (1-1).
  • Junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) equalized the score (5-5) with a kill.
  • The Bulldogs held a 12-9 advantage; Friars took a timeout. 
  • Easterwood got the score within one, Bryant remained ahead, 15-14.
  • Bryant stayed on top (20-18), Providence took its second timeout 
  • The Friars evened out the score, 21-21.
  • Following a Bulldog timeout, Bryant finished the set with the win, 25-23. 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars dominate the set 25-12 to take the lead, 2-1.
  • The Friars ran away with the lead (7-3) early in the set.
  • Providence extended its lead to 16-10 after a Bulldog error. 
  • A five-point run for the Friars gave them a 20-11 advantage. 
  • Senior Shea Dupuis (Richardson, Texas) ended the set with a kill, Providence won, 25-12. 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the set, 25-20, and captured the match, 3-1.  
  • The score was tied at 3-3 after both teams battled back and forth. 
  • Bryant took a timeout following a Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) kill. 
  • The Bulldogs got within two points, Providence took a timeout with the lead, 11-9. 
  • A service error by Bryant put the Friars at a 21-18 advantage. 
  • Adkins got Providence up by four, Bryant took its second timeout. 
  • The set ended with a block by Easterwood and Dupuis, the Friars won (25-20). 
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • The Friars dominated the Bulldogs with a .354 hitting percentage and 55 kills during the match.
  • Easterwood, Dupuis, and Adkins all had 11 kills on the day. 
  • Senior Miller McDonald led the team in service aces racking up four. 
  • Freshman Libero Ava Dyer (Fort Worth, Texas) led the defense with 21 digs. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will play their final match of the Ocean State Cup against the hosting University of Rhode Island on Sunday, Sep. 6 at 3 p.m.
