Providence College Volleyball Defeats The Jaspers In Home Opener

PROVIDENCE R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (6-1) defeated Manhattan University (0-7) in straight sets on Friday, Sept. 11, to open the 21st Annual Friar Classic at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars took set one, 25-14 
  • Providence went on a six-point run to take a 12-8 lead. 
  • A kill by junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) extended the lead to 19-13. 
  • A six-point run brought the Friars to match point (24-13).
  • Manhattan halted the run with a point, but the Friars' Sarah Musial closed out the set with a kill.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence commanded set two, 25-13
  • Providence took an early 9-2.
  • The Friars led the set wire-to-wire.
  • Friars dominated the set 25-13.
  • Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) led the Friars with four kills on four total attacks.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars took set three 25-9 to secure a sweep. 
  • Providence took an early lead 10-4.
  • The Friars extended their lead to double digits (18-8).
  •  Back-to-back points for the Friars closed out the set (25-9) and secured a sweep.
MATCH NOTES:
  • Senior Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas) notched a .957 serving percentage with five service aces. 
  • The Friars held the Jaspers to a -0.12-attack percentage. 
  • The Friars had 40 total kills. 
  • Providence won each set by double digits.
