Volleyball Set To Host 21st Annual Friars Classic

The Friars first match is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 against Manhattan University.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the 21st Annual Friar Classic on Sept. 11-12 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The first day of the tournament will feature two matches, followed by four matches on Saturday.Â

SCOUTING THE FRIARS (5-1):
• The Friars enter the tournament 5-1 overall. Providence most recently competed at the Ocean State Cup in Kingston, R.I. and swept all three matches to win the title. The Friars' three victories came against Brown (3-2), Bryant (3-1) and host Rhode Island (3-0).
• Freshman Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and leads the team in blocks, with 32.0.
• Easterwood also leads the BIG EAST in block assists (29) and average blocks per set (1.45).Â
• Junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) leads the team with 54 kills.Â
• Freshman Ava Dyer (Fort Worth, Texas) is leading the Friars in two categories. She has recorded a team-best 74 digs and nine service aces.

SCOUTING MANHATTAN (0-6):
• The Jaspers enter the tournament 0-6 after competing at the Yale Invitational. They fell to Santa Clara (0-3), Yale (0-3) and Hofstra (0-3).
• Manhattan's leader in kills is redshirt sophomore Brooke Johnson, with 37.Â
• Junior Ori Briger leads the team in both assists (77) and service aces (13).Â
SCOUTING STONEHILL (2-4):
• The Skyhawks are entering the tournament 2-4 after competing at the Boston College Invitational. Stonehill went 0-3 in the tournament and was defeated by Boston College (0-3), New Hampshire (0-3) and Bucknell (1-3).Â
• Sophomore Kristi Bishop leads the Skyhawks in digs (62) and service aces (12).
• The Skyhawks offense is led by sophomore Sam Loyd, with 79 kills.Â
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS (3-5):
• The Crusaders enter the weekend 3-5 following a mid-week victory against Marist (3-1).
• Sophomore Emma Sorensen leads the Crusaders in kills (103) and digs (71).Â
• Sophomore Isa Glover is leading the Holy Cross defense with 26.0 blocks.Â

• Last year, the Friars went undefeated in the Friar Classic, racking up wins against Central Connecticut (3-1), Merrimack (3-0) and Holy Cross (3-0).

WHAT'S NEXT:Â The Providence College volleyball team will return to action next weekend (Sept. 18-19) at the Harvard Tournament in Cambridge, Mass. The Friars will face off against host Harvard on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6:00 p.m. Providence will play Sacred Heart on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6:00 p.m.
