For 13 Years the National Grid Foundation has generously supported Providence schools through this program.

The teamwork of the National Grid Foundation and Providence College athletics continues to shine as the Hoops for the Stars program launches its 13th season.

Through this partnership, Providence elementary and middle school students have earned tickets to PC men's and women's basketball games as a reward for hard work in the classroom and leadership in their community.

This year the program has been revamped to feature ten monthly videos featuring members of the Providence College community and tailored to the students of Providence.  The videos will cover a broad spectrum of topics centered around the importance of education and community.

As a graduate of Providence public schools, Head Men's Basketball Coach Ed Cooley has become the model for this program and he kicked off the 2020 Hoops for the Stars program with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Ruane Friar Development Center.

"Having a role model like Ed Cooley creates a connection with the students and makes the Hoops for the Stars message authentic.  Coach Cooley literally walked the same hallways that these students walk and his story is something that all of them can relate to" said National Grid Foundation Executive Director, Ed White.

"The Hoops for the Stars Program is something that I wish was in place when I was a student in Providence schools," Cooley said.  "I see the impact that it has on the students and it helps to focus their attention on the opportunities that come with an education.  The National Grid Foundation's steadfast support of this program is truly a blessing to our schools."
