Men's Basketball Adds Malik Mack To The 2026-27 Roster

The 6-2 guard played one season at Harvard and the last two seasons at Georgetown.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Bryan Hodgson announced today (April 23) that 6-2 junior guard Malik Mack (Oxon Hill, Md.) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2026-27.

"We feel that Malik has a strong basketball background in the BIG EAST and he is the type of player who is suited to maximize his talents in Friartown," Hodgson said. "Malik began his career as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year before coming to the BIG EAST where he continued to have success. In two seasons at Georgetown, he averaged 13.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Malik is a dynamic guard who has his best basketball ahead of him."

Mack has been a consistent contributor throughout his first three seasons of college basketball.  In 90 career games, he has recorded 1,290 points (14.3 ppg), 315 rebounds (3.5 rpg), 393 assists (4.4 apg) and 101 steals (1.1 spg).  He has registered 100 or more assists in each of his three seasons.  Throughout his three seasons of play, Mack has shot 79.3 percent (264-333) from the free-throw line. He has averaged 33.4 minutes per game for his career, while starting all 90 games he has played.

Mack averaged 13.6 points, 4.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds last season while starting all 34 games for Georgetown.  He had 15 games with 15 or more points, including four games with 20 or more points.  Mack also recorded 14 games with five or more assists in 2025-26.  He ranked seventh in the BIG EAST in assists (4.1 apg), assist to turnover ratio (2.07) and free throw shooting (81.8 percent).  

Mack began his career at Harvard.  In his freshman season, he averaged 17.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 24 games.  He registered 116 assists.  He led the team in scoring and assists.  Mack shot 34.1 percent (45-132) from three and 81.3 percent (100-123) from the free-throw line.  For his efforts, he was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year. 

In his sophomore season, Mack averaged 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 32 games.  He made 59 threes on 166 attempts (35.5). He recorded 13 games with 15 or more points, including his career high of 37 points versus Washington State on March 31, 2025. Mack was third the team in scoring (13.9 ppg). He also registered 13 games with five or more assists.  Mack had a career-high 11 assist performance versus Coppin State on Dec. 28, 2024.  He led the team in assists (136) and threes made (59) in 2024-25.

Mack attended St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C.  He led St. John's College High School to a 32-4 record his senior season, which included a top-25 team ranking nationally, according to MaxPreps and ESPN.  Mack was selected as the 2022-23 Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington D.C. He earned First Team All-Met honors as a senior.
