PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Bryan Hodgson announced today (April 16) that 6-10 junior center Samson Aletan (Dallas, Texas) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2026-27.
"We believe that Samson has the potential to be a really special addition to Friartown," Hodgson said. "He is an athletic and versatile big whose physical profile will allow him to fit in well schematically in our offensive and defensive philosophies. He will provide an elite defensive presence. His background of basketball and high academics demonstrates he is a person who has continued to grow within a structured environment and contribute to winning."
Aletan started 29 games for Yale in 2025-26. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a 24-7 mark and the Ivy League regular season title and a NIT Tournament appearance. He averaged 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds last season. He led the team and ranked third in the Ivy League in blocks (41). Aletan shot 57.8 percent (85-147) from the field last season, which was tops on the team.
In his sophomore season, Aletan averaged 7.5 points and 3.8 rebounds while starting 29 of 30 games. He recorded 48 blocks, which led the team and ranked third in the Ivy League. Aletan shot a team best 59.1 percent (88-149) from the field. He registered a career-high 19 points versus Howard on Jan. 1, 2025. Aletan helped Yale capture the 2025 Ivy League Tournament title and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
In 2023-24, Aletan saw action in 21 games. Aletan helped Yale win the 2024 Ivy League Tournament title and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to Yale, Aletan attended Lake Highland High School. He was the 7-6A Defensive Player of the Year at Lake Highland in 2023. Aletan was a two-time first team All-District selection. He also was named to UIL 6A All-Region and All-State Tournament team. Aletan helped lead Lake Highlands to the UIL 6A state championship over Beaumont United in 2023, where he set the record for most blocks in a state tournament championship game (seven).
