PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team defeated the Merrimack College in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-11). On Sept. 4 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 2-1 while the Warriors dropped to 0-1 in their first NCAA Division I season.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
Providence took the first set, 25-15. The Friars went on an 8-2 run to close the set after the score was 17-13.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Friars with eight assists and three digs.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Friars with five kills.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
The Friars won the second set, 25-17. With the score tied, 13-13, the Friars went on a 12-4 scoring run to finish the set.
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) recorded 11 assists.
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) led the Friars with six kills.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) and Alderson each had five kills.
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had a team-high three digs in the set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
Providence led the set wire-to-wire and ultimately won, 25-11. The Friars got out to an 11-3 start to begin the set.
Leitman recorded four kills on five total attacks and collected a team-best four digs.
Mullally led the Friars with nine assists.
MATCH NOTES:
As a team, the Friars recorded 33 kills on 60 total attacks, 30 assists, 28 digs and six total team blocks.
Alderson hit .733 in the match, notching 12 kills on 15 total attacks.
Leitman finished the match with eight kills and a team-best seven digs.
