PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will host BIG EAST foe Temple and No. 6 Louisville this weekend at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars start the weekend slate against Temple on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:00 p.m. The squad closes the homestand against No. 6 Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE:
• Providence enters the weekend with a 4-3 overall record, having lost two games last weekend to No. 22 Old Dominion (4-3, 2OT/SO) and Fairfield (2-1). Old Dominion remains ranked 22
nd in this weeks NFHCA Coaches' Poll, while Fairfield made its season debut in the poll at No. 23.
• In the losses to Old Dominion and Fairfield, Providence finished each game with the advantage in shots and penalty corners. The Friars outshot ODU, 13-10, and recorded an 8-5 advantage in penalty corners. Against Fairfield, Providence held a 21-8 lead in shots and 12-4 edge in corners.
• Providence is 1-2 vs. nationally-ranked opponents this season and will face their fourth ranked foe, No. 6 Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
• Twelve players on the roster have scored at least one point, including seven different goal scorers.

Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) leads the Friars in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Last weekend, she combined to score six points against Old Dominion and Fairfield on two goals and two assists. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 23.
• Junior
Olivia Ward (North Havelock, New Zealand) missed three games with an injury this season, but has scored a goal in three of the four games she has played. Her three goals have come on just six shot attempts.
• Senior
Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) is second on the team in scoring with seven points. She has recorded two goals and a team-best three assists.
• Graduate student
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) has logged 473 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 1.40 goals against average and a 0.732 save percentage. She has registered three shut-out victories vs. Bryant (2-0), Brown (3-0) and Lafayette (1-0, SO).
• Providence has won four-straight games against Temple to tie the all-time series, 4-4. Four of the last five games have been decided in overtime, including last year's 3-2 (2OT) victory in Philadelphia, Pa. The last meeting between Temple and Providence at Lennon Family Field was played during the 2017 campaign, with the Friars claiming a 4-2 victory. Providence also has scored three-or-more goals in four of the last five meetings vs. the Owls.
• Providence trails the all-time series against Louisville, 10-1. Its lone victory over the Cards came during the 2007 BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals in Syracuse, N.Y. (2-0). Six of the 11 matches against Louisville have been decided by a single goal, including two overtime games.
• The Friars were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Aug. 23.
SCOUTING TEMPLE:
• Temple enters the weekend with a 4-2 overall record and a 0-1 mark in the BIG EAST. Its only two losses of the season have come against Kent State (3-0) and BIG EAST foe Liberty (4-0). The Owls defeated Drexel, 3-2, in their most recent game on Sept. 22.
• Dani Batze and Claire Thomas lead the offense with six point each. Batze has recorded three goals, while Thomas has tallied two goals and a team-best two assists. Kerrie Lorenz checks in with five points on two goals and one assist.
• Cristina Carotenuto has played 360 minutes in the cage during her first season as a full-time starter. She owns a 1.75 goals against average and a 0.679 save percentage. Carotenuto began the year with three shut-out victories vs. Bryant (2-0), Merrimack (3-0) and La Salle (3-0). Temple has given up nine goals in its last three games.
• First-year Temple Head Coach Susan Ciufo, who spent the previous four seasons at Stonehill College, has helped the Owls double their win total from last year, just six games into the 2019 season. Temple completed the 2018 campaign with 2-16 record.
SCOUTING NO. 6 LOUISVILLE:
• Louisville enters the weekend with a 6-1 overall record and is ranked sixth in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll, released on Sept. 24.
• Louisville's only loss this season came at the hands of No. 1-ranked North Carolina, 4-1, on Sept. 20 in its most recent match. The Cards out-shot North Carolina, 16-12, and also held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners during the match.
• The Cards will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to face ACC opponent Boston College on Friday, Sept. 27 before making their way to Providence.
• Bethany Russ leads the offense with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. She has scored at least one point in five of the Cards' seven games, including at least one goal in four matches. Three of her seven goals came in the season opener against Indiana.
• Madison Walsh is second on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and a team-best three assists.
• Hollyn Barr has logged 335 minutes in the cage and owns a 1.07 goals against average and a 0.625 save percentage. Barr has been the goalkeeper of record in each of Louisville's games (6-1). Sam Minrath has seen 90 minutes in goal and has recorded a 2.00 goals against average and a 0.571 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 at Villanova in a BIG EAST match-up, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Friars will return home to complete the weekend against non-conference opponent Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars' game against the Big Green will serve as the program's annual Alumni Day and its Pink Out Friartown event.
