PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed in the Ocean State Invitational on Friday, April 12 at Providence College. The Friars had eight runners finish in the top-ten in their respective events. 
 
Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) was the first highlight of the night for the Friars. Paladino competed in section one of the women's 800 meters. The group remained tightly packed for the majority of the race, with Paladino positioning herself in the top five. The race picked up with 600 to go and Paladino went with the leader. She would go on to outkick the leader in the last 200 meters to take the victory in a time of 2:08.19. 
 
Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Western Australia) was another highlight for the Friars in the women's mile. Ilarda positioned herself in the middle of the pack for most of the race. The pacer stepped off the track after 1,200 meters and Ilarda positioned herself in second. The race was neck and neck until the last 100 meters when Ilarda made a final surge and took the win. She would cross the line in a time of 4:42.58, running a personal best. Abbey Wheeler (Elimra, N.Y.) and Regan Rome (Dalla, Pa.) also had strong showings in the women's mile. Wheeler would go on to finish third overall (4:46.96), while Rome was not far behind finishing in sixth (4:54.66).Wheeler's time was a personal best. 
 
On the men's side, there were two Friars that placed in the top-10 in the men's mile. Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) was the first to cross the line in sixth place in a time of 4:08.79. Michael O'Leary (St. James, N.Y.) was not far behind placing 10thoverall in a time of 4:13.15. Flight (4:18.75) and Rocha (4:18.79) both ran personal bests. 
 
Ian Steller (Providence, R.I.) and Austin Scola (Medfield, Mass.) were the highlights in the men's 5,000 meters. Steller and Scola both ran through the field and placed fourth (14:47.23) and fifth (14:48.24) overall. 
 
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, April 13 for the final day of the Ocean State Invitational at Brown University.
