PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Tuesday, March 12 that Providence junior guard Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) was named to the USBWA All-District 1 Team. Diallo is the first Friar to earn USBWA All-District 1 honors since Rodney Bullock was named to the Team in 2018.
On Sunday, Diallo also was named All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Diallo finished the regular season averaging 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. He has led the team in points (499), steals (48), assists (96), free throws (142) and minutes (1099). Diallo scored his season-high 27 points in the second game of the season against Wichita State, while adding 10 rebounds and five assists. He recorded nine double-doubles throughout the season which tied him for first in the BIG EAST. In BIG EAST play Diallo ranked third in rebounding averaging 8.0 per game, 12th in scoring with 15.2 points per game and tied for seventh in steals with 26 overall. Last season, Diallo was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in Providence's run to the BIG EAST Championship game against Villanova.
The Friars concluded the regular season with a 17-14 overall record and 7-11 mark in BIG EAST action to earn the eight seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Providence will play Butler (16-15, 7-11) on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in the First Round of the BIG EAST Tournament on FS1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
