PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Department of Athletics has partnered with University Surgical Associates to feature the 'Stand Up to Cancer' initiative at the Providence College men's basketball game versus St. John's on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. It is the College's 2nd Annual Pink Out The Dunk' game to promote breast cancer awareness. In order to create awareness about breast cancer beyond the month of October, University Surgical Associates is aligning with the Friars as the presenting sponsor on Wednesday, February 20th when the Friars host St. John's.

The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, where University Surgical Associates will have the opportunity to honor their current patients and cancer survivors.  Fans will be encouraged to wear pink and 'Pink Out the Dunk' in order to create awareness as well as take part in ceremonies throughout the evening.

In addition, prior to the game and during the first half, fans will be directed to visit one of three University Surgical Associates tables on the concourse.  Friar fans will be given the opportunity to write the name of loved ones that have battled against the disease on custom branded cards and stand for a moment of unity during the under four minute timeout of the first half.

"We are pleased to partner with Providence College to promote this tremendously important initiative," said William Cioffi, MD, FACS, President of University Surgical Associates. "Breast cancer affects not only the patient, but also their family and friends. On Wednesday night, we honor our patients and join with their loved ones to promote breast cancer awareness."

According to the Center for Breast Care at University Surgical Associates Director Theresa Graves, MD, FACS, "It is important to remind people that breast cancer awareness extends beyond the month of October. With one in eight women affected in their lifetime, breast cancer awareness should be on our minds all year long. We support Providence College's decision to use this as a national stage to help spread awareness and we're looking forward to it."
