The men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in South Kingston, R.I. on Feb. 9.

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Friars had three athletes win their respective events.
 
Providence had an impressive performance in the men's 3,000 meters as the Friars swept the first four places. Junior Ian Steller (Providence, R.I.) took home the win in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:31.77. Steller was followed close behind by sophomore Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) in 8:36.20, sophomore David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge ,N.Y.) in 8:40.78 , and junior Liam Harris (Douglas, Ireland) in 8:42.71. 
 
Freshman Marcus Kemp (Kitchener, Ontario) and senior Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) finished first and third, respectively, in the men's mile. Winning with a lean, Kemp took the victory with a time of 4:18.19. Karamanolis was right behind Kemp, taking third with a time of 4:19.01.

Graduate student Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) had another strong race for the Friars, winning the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:28.77. The win is Wyman's third victory of the season.
 
Junior Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) ran a solid race in the 800 meters. From the gun, Carleo positioned himself in the front of the pack and opened a small gap with 400 meters to go. In the last 200 meters, Carleo was outkicked and finished second in a time of 1:57.43.
 
On the women's side, Mackenzie Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) had a strong race for the Friars in the 3,000 meters. Galvin took the lead from the start and held that position for most of the race. With 800 meters to go two women surged passed opening up a gap. Galvin would go on to finish fourth overall in 10:38.05.

Jack Carleo: 1,000 meters, 5th, 2:30.79
Dara Cuffe: 1,000 meters, 4th, 3:07.51
 
Senior Michael O'Leary (St. James, N.Y.), running unattached, finished fourth overall in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:25.76 at the BU Valentine Invitational. The time qualifies O'Leary for the USATF Indoor Championships, to be held on Feb. 22-23.

The Friars will compete at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I. on Feb. 16 . The race will act as a tune up for the Friars before the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 22-23.
