VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to Villanova in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-23 on Nov. 9 in Villanova, Pa. The Friars fall to 6-21 overall (1-13 BIG EAST) and the Wildcats extend their win streak to seven. The Wildcats are 20-6 overall (11-3 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats held the lead from start to finish and won the set, 25-15.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had a set-high seven kills on 13 total attacks to go with four digs.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Friars with eight assists.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) registered a team-high five digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova broke an early 3-3 tie with an 8-1 run (11-4). The Wildcats maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the set and won, 25-18.
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) paced the Friar offense with five kills on seven total attacks (.714 hitting percentage).
Barber recorded a set-high nine assists to go with two digs.
Taylor had a team-high five digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: This set went back and forth with 12 tied scores and six lead changes. Providence trailed 22-20 before taking the next three points and the lead, 23-22. Villanova battled back to win the next three points and the set, 25-23.
Leitman tallied three kills on 16 total attacks.
Barber had team-highs eight assists and five digs. Taylor and
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) recorded five digs each for the Friar defense.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Barber became the fifth player in Friar history to surpass 3,000 career assists. Barber finished with a team-high 25 assists and seven digs.
Leitman registered 11 kills on 38 total attacks. On the defensive side, Leitman had seven digs.
Taylor led the Friar defense with 15 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence travels to Butler and Xavier next weekend. The Friars take on the Bulldogs on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 p.m. and the Musketeers on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
