PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team hits the road for the final time in the 2019 season, facing Butler and Xavier. The Friars face the Bulldogs on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 p.m. and the Musketeers on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: Providence enters the weekend 6-21 overall (1-13 BIG EAST). The Friars fell to Georgetown and Villanova this past weekend. Both matches ended in straight sets.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) passed 3,000 career assists this past weekend against Villanova and ranks fifth all-time in Friar history. Barber ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 8.17 assists per set and first for the Friars in digs (294). Barber tallied 33 assists and 13 digs against Butler and 30 assists and 19 digs versus Xavier.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) added a defensive presence this past weekend, averaging 3.67 digs per set. In the first meetings against Butler and Xavier, Taylor had 16 and nine digs, respectively.
In conference matches,
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) is tenth in the BIG EAST with 2.71 kills per set. Root recorded 14 and 12 kills versus Butler and Xavier, respectively.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Butler stands just outside of the BIG EAST playoff picture with a 8-6 conference record, standing one match behind St. John's. The Bulldogs are 11-15 overall, beating Seton Hall and falling to St. John's this past weekend. Butler defeated Providence in four sets on Oct. 20 in Providence, R.I.
The Bulldogs are led by two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the week, Elizabeth LaBue. LaBue ranks third in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.73).
Megan Ramseyer, who did not appear in the first match against the Friars, checks in at fourth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.38).
Anna Logan registered a double-double in the first meeting against the Friars. Logan ended with 16 kills, 12 digs and six total blocks.
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS: Xavier is still in the BIG EAST postseason hunt with a 7-7 conference record, 10-14 overall. The Musketeers were dropped in straight sets by St. John's and defeated Seton Hall in five sets this past weekend. Xavier defeated Providence in four sets in the first meeting.
Jayda Carlton leads the BIG EAST in blocks per set (1.22) and is seventh in hitting percentage (.287). Carlton is coming off of a career-high 17 kill day against Seton Hall. Carlton tallied nine blocks and six digs against the Friars in the first meeting.
Freshman setter Carrigan O'Reilly ranks ninth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (5.93). O'Reilly tallied a BIG EAST season-high 64 assists in their most recent match against Seton Hall. O'Reilly had 35 assists versus Providence in the first meeting.
Madi Kutruff leads the defensive side for the Musketeers with 328 digs on the season. Kutruff ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (3.97). Kutruff had 21 digs against Providence on Oct. 18.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return home for their final regular-season home matches. Providence takes on DePaul on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 p.m. and No. 9 Marquette on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m. The match against the Blue Demons will be broadcast live on BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) and will be senior day for five Friars.
