Volleyball Downed In Straight Sets To Butler

The Friars return to action in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. against Xavier.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Providence College volleyball team was downed in straight sets to the Butler Bulldogs, 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 on Friday, Nov. 15 in Indianapolis, Ind. Butler remains just outside of the playoff picture with a 9-6 BIG EAST record, 12-15 overall. Providence drops to 6-22 overall, 1-14 in BIG EAST play.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: After the Friars strong start, leading 6-3, the Bulldogs rattled off six straight points to lead the set, 9-6. Providence tied the set back up at 11. The middle of the set went back and forth with the latest tie in the set being at 22. Butler edged three out of the next four points to finish the set, 25-23.
 
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had a set-high four kills on 12 total attacks to go with four digs.
 
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led all players with 10 assists.
 
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) each had a team-high five digs.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler held the lead from start to finish, winning the set, 25-11.
 
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) led the Friars with two kills.
 
Barber and Mullally recorded all five total assists for Providence.
 
Taylor registered a team-high three digs.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Bulldogs led the set throughout and won, 25-21. Providence pulled it within one late in the set, 19-18, but Butler was able to hold Providence off.
 
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) registered four kills on 12 total attacks.
 
Mullally tallied team-highs four assists and five digs.
 
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: 
 
Root paced the Friar offense with seven kills on 24 total attacks.
 
Barber recorded 16 assists and five digs.
 
Mullally and Taylor were the only Friars with double-double digs. Both recorded 10 digs each.

As a team, the Friars registered 26 kills on 111 total attacks, 52 digs and 25 assists.
