CINCINNATI, Ohio-The Providence College volleyball team lost to the Xavier Musketeers on Sunday, Nov. 17 in Cincinnati Ohio, 3-1. Xavier took the first set, 25-20 but Providence claimed the second set, 25-19, to even the match. Xavier won the next two sets, 25-17, 25-21, to win the match. Providence drops to 6-23 overall, 1-15 BIG EAST and Xavier improves to 11-15 overall, 8-8 BIG EAST.
Three Providence players registered double-digit kills.
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) led the Friar offense with a season-high 13 kills on 19 total attacks. Schaible registered a .632 hitting percentage.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) chipped in with 10 kills on 25 total attacks to go with eight digs.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) recorded 10 kills on 20 total attacks and three blocks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led all players with 36 assists. Barber helped the defensive effort with seven digs.
The Providence defense was led by
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.). Taylor tallied a team-high 14 digs and Mullally contributed 10 digs.
As a team, the Friars had 48 kills on 109 total attacks, 49 digs and 38 assists.
The Friars return home for their final regular-season home matches. Providence takes on DePaul on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 p.m. and No. 9 Marquette on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m. The match against the Blue Demons will be broadcast live on BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) and will be senior day for five Friars.
