Shelby Hogan's (Franklin, Mass.) save in the sixth round of penalty kicks propelled the Providence College women's soccer team over the Butler Bulldogs in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Indianapolis, Ind. The Friars and Bulldogs headed to the overtime periods knotted at one goal apiece before Providence won the penalty kick shoot-out, 5-4.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Butler gained a 1-0 advantage 37 minutes into the first half. Amanda Kowalski played a free kick from 35 yards out to the back post. Anja Savich headed the ball over Hogan retreating to the goal line.

Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) had Providence's first real opportunity just two minutes later.
Alessandra Arace (Pittsfield, Mass.) played a low cross to McNulty at the edge of the six-yard box. McNulty tried to go near post but just missed over the cross bar.
- The Friars found the equalizer in the 82nd minute after a pressure filled second half. McNulty lined up a free kick from 30 yards out and blasted a shot to the upper left corner past the outstretched goalkeeper. The goal marked McNulty's team-leading ninth goal of the season.
- The game headed to overtime but neither side could find the golden goal, forcing a decision in a penalty kick shoot-out.

Jana Braun (Frittlingen, Germany),
Melissa Bambery (Acton, Mass.),
Celina Falzarano (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) and
Mara Rodriguez (Rochester, N.Y.) slotted home the first four penalty kicks for the Friars. Butler failed to convert on their second penalty kick and the Friars failed to convert on their fifth, pushing a sixth round.
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) finished the penalty kick leading to Hogan saving the final penalty kick attempt for the win.
- Providence improved to 9-8-3 on the season. The Friars secured their third-consecutive appearance in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
- The Friars now hold a 3-0 record in penalty kick shoot-outs since 2015, most recently defeating DePaul in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal in 2017.
- This marked the Friars' first win against the Bulldogs in the BIG EAST Tournament after dropping the previous three meetings in conference post-season play.
