PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College sophomore
Michael Callahan (Franklin, Mass.) and senior
Spenser Young (Brentwood, N.H.) have been named captains of the men's hockey program for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Callahan, a fifth round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2018, appeared in 41 games on the Providence blue line last season, registering two goals, eight assists and a +19 rating. The plus-minus rating ranked sixth among NCAA freshmen defensemen in 2018-19.
Young is coming off a career season as a junior as he tallied career highs in goals (8), assists (13) and points (21) with a +19 rating. His +15 rating in Hockey East games ranked fourth among all league players. In 106 career games at Providence, Young has totaled 13 goals and 32 assists for 45 points with a +29 rating on defense.
Providence opens the 2019-20 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 5 as they play host to the University of Maine beginning at 4 p.m.
