– The Providence College women's soccer team begins their first road trip of the season on Thursday, Aug. 23. The Friars will travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take on the Hartford Hawks for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. The match will be played on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
Best Start Since 2015
Providence has started the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2015 season, outshooting their opponents 30-8 over the course of the two games. Hogan recorded back-to-back shutouts giving her nine career shutouts as a sophomore. The Friars' two wins came over Holy Cross (2-0) and Fairleigh Dickinson (1-0). The dominant wins led to
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) earning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and
Katie Day (East Kingston, N.H.) earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition.
Friars Offense
Four players have had a hand in the team's three goals. McNulty leads the way with three points on one goal and one assist.
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) and
Casey Estey (Kensington, N.H.) are tied with McNulty in goals, with one each.
Hailee Duserick (Canton, Mass.) has added an assist in the team's 2-0 win over Holy Cross.
Friars in 2017
Four Friars earned All-BIG EAST recognition at the conclusion of the season. Goalkeeper
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) earned the Friars' lone major award as a co-recipient of BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. She also earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors with teammate
Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.) and BIG EAST All-Freshman Team recognition with teammate
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.).
Katie Day (East Kingston, N.H.) represented Providence on the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Newcomers
The Friars welcome five new members to the women's soccer program for the 2018 season. Incoming players include
Caroline Drinkwater (Duxbury, Mass.),
Celina Falzarano (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.),
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.),
Hannah Morgan (Berwyn, PA.) and
Mackenzie Simpson (San Diego, Calif.).
Four of the five players made their collegiate debut against Holy Cross on Aug. 16. Grillakis and Morgan were among the starting 11.

Scouting the Hawks
Hartford enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 2-0. The Hawks took down Delaware State, 7-0, and followed that up with a 3-0 win over Siena. Sophomore Gabriela Gamory and junior Bridgette Alexander are tied for the team lead in goals, with three each. Gamory has tallied her three goals in only 58 minutes of play. Hartford entered the season picked fourth in the America East Preseason Poll with one first place vote. Last season, the Hawks finished the season with an 8-9-2 record. They fell short to Stony Brook in the America East Championship Quarterfinal, 2-0.

The Friars will travel to Duke University to play in the Duke Nike Classic, facing off against two nationally-ranked opponents in No. 11 Duke and No. 4 North Carolina.
