Kayla Steeves and Amber Birchwell notch their first goals of the season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team stayed undefeated on the season with a 2-0 win over Hartford on August 23. The game was played on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. This is the first time since the 2015 season that the Friars have started 3-0.

Sophomore Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) did not waste any time making her presence known, scoring just 25 minutes into her season debut and adding an assist in the second half. Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.), who earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors a season ago, notched her first goal of the season in the 58th minute, with a rebound off a deflected shot. Goalkeeper Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) continued her stellar play in net for Providence. She has not given up a goal in 270 minutes of play to start the season. This shutout came after earning BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll last week.
