PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced by the Hockey East Association today (June 28) that 11 Providence College men's hockey players were named to the league's 2016-17 All-Academic Team.
Junior Robbie Hennessey (Garnet Valley, Pa.) also was named to the All-Academic All-Star Team in boasting one of the highest GPAs at the forward position in the Hockey East last season.
In addition to Hennessey, senior Kyle McKenzie (Aston, Pa.), juniors Alex Cromwell (McKinney, Texas) and Brian Pinho (North Andover, Mass.), sophomores Vincent Desharnais (Laval, Quebec), Garrett Gamez (Chino Hills, Calif.), Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.), and freshmen Kasper Björkqvist (Espoo, Finland), Jacob Bryson (London, Ontario), Vimal Sukumaran (Montreal, Quebec), and Spenser Young (Brentwood, N.H.) also were named to the 2016-17 All-Academic Team.
In total, a record 149 student-athletes across the league achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during the 2016-17 season.
