Men's Hockey Inks Five To National Letters Of Intent

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's hockey Head Coach Nate Leaman announced that student-athletes Erik Foley (Mansfield, Mass.), Garrett Gamez (Chino Hills, Calif.), Cam Lee (Ferguson's Cove, Nova Scotia), Bryan Lemos (East Providence, R.I.) and Spenser Young (Brentwood, N.H.) each have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College.



"We are extremely excited to welcome this group of student-athletes to the Friar hockey family," Leaman said. "These men will be great additions to our program and to the Providence College community."



Foley is a 5-foot-11-inch, 185-pound forward who plays for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The son of Nana and John Foley, Erik joined the RoughRiders for the end of the 2013-14 season, playing in one regular-season game before appearing in two playoff contests. This season, Foley has played in 20 games, netting 10 goals and adding 12 assists for 22 points. He has three power-play goals and three game winners. He was a member of the 2014 USA Ivan Hlinka Team, which placed third in Piestany, Slovakia (Aug. 9-16, 2014). Prior to joining the RoughRiders, Foley played at Tabor Academy (Marion, Mass.).



Gamez is a 6-foot, 188-pound forward who plays for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. The son of Stacie and Craig, Garrett is in his third season with Tri-City. This season he has played in 16 games, netting seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Last season he played in 57 games, notching six goals and 28 assists for a team-high 34 points. In 2012-13, his first season with Tri-City, he scored eight goals and added 10 assist for 18 points in 46 games and was a teammate of current Friar Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.). Gamez is Tri-City's team captain and he was named the 2014 Curt Hammer Award Winner, which recognizes the USHL player who distinguishes himself both on and off the ice by demonstrating outstanding performance skills, pride, and determination.



Lee is a 5-foot-11-inch, 172-pound defenseman who plays for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. The son of Leslie and Tom Lee, he has played 14 games so far in his first USHL season, netting four goals and five assists for nine points. He leads the team with a +7 rating on the year. Prior to playing for Lincoln, Lee played at the Northwood School, where he was teammates with current Providence College freshman forward Robbie Hennessey (Garnet Valley, Pa.).



Lemos is a 5-foot-10 inch, 180-pound forward who plays for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. The son of Cheryl and Bill Lemos, Bryan has four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in his first 19 games with Youngstown. Prior to Youngstown, Lemos played with the Boston Jr. Bruins for two seasons as well as for La Salle Academy (Providence, R.I.) for one season.



Young is a 5-foot-10-inch, 177-pound defenseman who plays for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. The son of Mark and Cindy, Young has played in 18 games in his first season in the USHL. He has a goal and two assists for the Fighting Saints. He was a teammate of Foley's on Team USA at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, earning third place with a 5-4 overtime win against Sweden (Aug. 16). Before joining Dubuque, Young played for Phillips Exeter Academy (Exeter, N.H.).
