PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (Oct. 22) that Providence College senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team. The All-BIG EAST Teams and the Preseason Coaches Poll were announced today at the league's media day at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Friars, who won the 2014 BIG EAST Championship, were picked fifth of 10 teams in the Coaches Poll.
Henton earned 2014 All-BIG EAST Tournament Team honors after averaging 17.0 points and 12.7 rebounds in three games while leading the Friars to the BIG EAST title. He ranked second in the league in rebounding last season, averaging 7.9 boards per game. As a junior, Henton finished second on the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and first in rebounding. The senior forward has led the Friars in rebounding each of his three seasons at Providence. Henton ranks 20th all-time in scoring at Providence with 1,390 points in 101 games (13.8 ppg). He also ranks ninth all-time in rebounding (832 rebounds, 8.2 rpg). Henton has recorded 26 double-doubles during his career as a Friar.
The Friars will open the season with an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The team will play its first game on Saturday, November 15 versus Albany at 7 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
