WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Providence College men's ice hockey freshman forward Brian Pinho (North Andover, Mass.) was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, the Association announced on Monday (Oct. 13).

Pinho helped lead the Friars to a weekend road split at Ohio State. With 45 seconds to play in overtime on Saturday night, he snapped off a quick wrist shot that beat Ohio State goaltender Matt Tomkins to lift Providence to a 2-1 win at the Value City Arena. Pinho becomes Providence's first Hockey East Rookie of the Week since Nick Ellis (Millersville, Md.) earned the honor on Dec. 23, 2013.

The win was Providence's first over the Buckeyes in five all-time meetings. It was also Providence's first overtime win since Niko Rufo (Stoneham, Mass.) netted the overtime winner at home against Miami last season (Oct. 25, 2013).

On Friday night, in a 5-4 overtime loss at Ohio State, Pinho netted a goal in his Friar debut to become the first Friar freshman to score in his debut since Oct. 12, 2012 when Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) and Paul de Jersey (West Vancouver, British Columbia) each scored at least one goal against Sacred Heart.

Pinho and the Friars are back in action at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 when they play host to the U.S. Under-18 team in an exhibition game at Schneider Arena. The regular season then continues with a road trip to face No. 2/2 North Dakota on Oct. 24-25.
