Men's Basketball 2012-13 Schedule Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooleyannounced the men's basketball 2012-13 schedule on Wednesday, September 5. The schedule is highlighted by home games against BIG EAST opponents Syracuse, Connecticut, Villanova and Notre Dame.

The Friars will play 18 BIG EAST games this season, six of which will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The 18-game format will allow each team to play 10 opponents once and four teams twice. PC's home league schedule will feature games versus DePaul on January 5, Syracuse on January 9, Villanova on January 19, Pittsburgh on January 22 on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m., Connecticut on January 31 on ESPN/ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m., Cincinnati on February 6, Notre Dame on February 16, St. John's on March 2 and Seton Hall on March 5.

Providence will open its BIG EAST season on the road with a game at Louisville on January 2. PC's other league road games will be at Seton Hall on January 13, at Georgetown on January 16, at Marquette on January 26, at Villanova on February 3, at USF on February 13 on ESPNU at 9:00 p.m., at Syracuse on February 20 on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m., at Rutgers on February 23 on ESPNU at 9:00 p.m., and at Connecticut on March 9 on ESPNU at 12:00 p.m.

Only start times for league games televised on ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU have been released today. The remainder of the game times and the full television schedule will be released at a later date.

In non-conference action, the Friars will play 12 games, including seven at home. PC will play its first game of the season on Saturday, November 10 versus NJIT at 2:00 p.m. Other key home games during the non-conference season will be against Mississippi State in the SEC-BIG EAST Challenge on December 1 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPNU and versus Rhode Island on December 6 at 7:00 p.m. The remainder of the Friars' non-conference homes games are against Bryant on November 12, Fairfield on November 23, Holy Cross on November 27, and Colgate on December 18.

PC will face two long-time New England rivals in non-conference road action when they travel to Boston College on December 22 and Brown on December 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Providence College will travel to Puerto Rico and play three games in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan. The Friars will open the tournament versus UMass on November 15 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU. In the team's second game it will face either NC State or Penn State on November 16 at 5:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2, ESPN3 or ESPNU. Providence will play its final game of the tournament in Puerto Rico on November 18.

The Friars will open their season with an exhibition contest versus Assumption on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. on the Providence College campus at Alumni Hall. The Friars' second exhibition game will take place on Saturday, November 3 versus Rhode Island College at 7:00 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Fans can get their first glimpse of the team at the annual Late Night Madness festivities at PC's Alumni Hall on Friday, October 12.
