PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College women's swimming and diving team defeated the Coast Guard Academy (147-116) and WPI (161-105) at home on Friday, Nov. 16, to raise their record to 8-6. The Coast Guard Academy also defeated WPI, 200-73.
Sophomore Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) collected two individual first-place finishes in the victory. O'Neill won the 800m freestyle (9:34.38) and the 100m backstroke (1:08.65). Senior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.) collected victories in the 100m freestyle and the 200m freestyle, finishing in 1:01.72 and 2:12.06, respectively. Sophomore Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) took first place in the 100m breaststroke (1:18.08) and the 200m breaststroke (2:51.94). Sophomore Moira James (Olney, Md.) and junior Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) rounded out the individual victories for the Friars in swimming. James won the 200m backstroke in 2:31.95, while Mullany won the 50m freestyle in 28.14. James, Federiconi, Mullany and sophomore Meredith Pramer (Norwalk, Conn.) combined to win the 200m medley relay in 2:08.05. Senior Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) won the 1m diving event with 295.00 points.
The men's swimming and diving teams will compete against the Coast Guard Academy and WPI, Saturday, Nov. 17 in New London, Conn. to close out the two day event.
