Men's Hockey Coach Tim Army Named Head Coach Of USA Under-18 Select Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Hockey Coach Tim Army will serve as the head coach of the 2010 USA Under-18 Select Team. The Under-18 Select Team will compete at the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament from August 9-14 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

There have been 21 players selected, representing 13 states across the U.S. The U.S. team has had success in the past Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournaments, finishing in the top-three nine times since the tournament began in 1991, including a first place finish in 2003.

Army served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team in 1994 and 1996. The 1996 U.S. National Team earned the bronze medal at the World Championships in Vienna, Austria. Army also was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. He will be entering his sixth season as head coach of the Friar men's hockey team.

A graduate of Providence College, Army is one of the top players in Friar History, ranking first all-time in games played (151), sixth in points (179), 11th in goals (71), and tied fourth in assists (108).

Team USA begins the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament on Monday, Aug. 9 against Czech Republic at 9:30 a.m. Local/EDT.
